The story
For 44 years, Frank Flyte ran Southern Hills Carpet in Hot Springs. He built his reputation on doing the job right, every time, regardless of who was watching. That ethic raised a son who grew up around the work and learned the trade not as a job but as a way of treating other people's property.
In 2015, Alex Flyte started Black Hills Carpet & Upholstery Care out of his garage as a mobile detailing operation. The work was good, customers came back, and they brought friends. By 2025 the business had outgrown the garage and moved into a permanent home at 357 N River Street in historic downtown Hot Springs.
In 2025 the business won Best of the Black Hills in two service categories. The recognition was nice. The reason it happened is more important: methodical work, customers who trusted us with their vehicles and homes, and a refusal to skip steps that other operations cut to save time.
"He's been a professional detailer and cleaner for years. He's meticulous and will stand by his work." — Wendee Pettis
What we believe
Most operations treat the visible surface. We treat everything: every fiber, every finish, every forgotten corner. The difference shows up six months later when one job still looks new and the other doesn't.
If something isn't right, we make it right. No add-on fees. No "well, that wasn't in the scope." Customers don't come back to us by accident. They come back because we earned the second visit on the first one.
Hot Springs is small. Every customer is also a neighbor, a friend of a neighbor, or someone we'll run into at the store. That accountability shapes how we work, how we price, and how we handle anything that doesn't go to plan.

The shop
In May 2025, BHCUC moved into its permanent home at 357 N River Street. The building sits in the historic downtown core, two blocks from the Mammoth Site and steps from the Fall River. Working in a town this beautiful is part of the job we don't take for granted.
